It is now widely acknowledged that women are particularly exposed to some of the factors that increase the risk of poor mental health because of the role and status that they typically have in society.
Also the traditional roles for women from some ethnic groups living in the UK can increase their exposure to these risks.
At South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust we provide focused inpatient care which we are improving in order to address the specific needs of female service users.
Our Acute wards offer psychiatric assessment, care and treatment in hospital, which helps reduce risk to self and others.
Our Women Only wards are as follows in Croydon:
Ward: Gresham 1 – Acute ward for women, aged 16-65, who have acute mental illness and require 24 hour hospital care. Acute illnesses start quickly and have distressing symptoms. Providing care for woman who live in the London Borough of Croydon.
Ward: Fitzmary 1 – Our brand new female acute service on the Bethlem Royal Hospital site. The ward will run as a 14 bedded service for women requiring a range of acute crisis interventions. The ward will support and care for some of the most vulnerable service users from our community and offer an exciting opportunity to be part of the development of a new service with a focus on enhanced therapeutic alliance and elevated levels of engagement.
We will provide a robust support package for making the transfer from student nurse to registered nurse. You will receive regular individual and group supervision as well as an appraisal. As a newly registered nurse you will also have access to Perceptorship and Mentorship in order to develop you as a highly skilled and compassionate nurse. There is a strong leadership team on these units who will guide and support you in your professional development.
For these roles we are interested in RMNs and RNLDs who will qualify within the next 3 months as well as those who are already qualified.
If successful at shortlisting stage you will be invited to an assessment at the Bethlem Hospital site.
**Please note that if you do not state the month and year that you have completed your Nursing qualification you will not be invited to the assessment.**
