SLaM NHS Foundation Trust wishes to appoint a Specialty Doctor to work in a Male Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) in the Croydon Operations Directorate.

This is a full-time (10 PA) fixed-term post until August 2019 based in the Croydon PICU at the Bethlem Royal Hospital. The Croydon PICU is a 10 bed unit which opened in April 2016; it is a very good PICU environment. The post holder will work together with a fully staffed multidisciplinary team which includes a Consultant Psychiatrist who is based full-time on the PICU and a full-time ST4-6.

The post holder will be involved in the assessment and management of male PICU patients. The post offers the opportunity to work with severely ill patients in a highly supported environment and to gain expertise in the assessment and management of risk. In its position at the interface between several clinical services and external agencies (eg the police and courts), the PICU also provides an opportunity to develop liaison skills.

In addition to clinical work, it is envisaged that the Specialty Doctor will be able to become actively involved in quality improvement projects within the unit.
