It is now widely acknowledged that women are particularly exposed to some of the factors that increase the risk of poor mental health because of the role and status that they typically have in society.
Also the traditional roles for women from some ethnic groups living in the UK can increase their exposure to these risks.
At South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust we provide focused inpatient care which we are improving in order to address the specific needs of female service users.
Our Acute wards offer psychiatric assessment, care and treatment in hospital, which helps reduce risk to self and others.
Our Women Only wards in Lambeth and Lewisham are as follows:
Ward 1: Nelson – Acute ward for women, aged 18-65, with acute mental health problems. Acute illnesses start quickly and have distressing symptoms. Providing care for woman who live in the London Borough of Lambeth.
Ward: Wharton – Acute ward for women, aged 18-65, with acute psychiatric illness. Acute illnesses start quickly and have distressing symptoms. Providing care for women who live in the London Borough of Lewisham.
Ward: Ruskin - Acute ward for women, aged 16-65, who have severe mental illness. We provide care for women who live in the London Borough of Southwark.
We will provide a robust support package for making the transfer from student nurse to registered nurse. You will receive regular individual and group supervision as well as an appraisal. As a newly registered nurse you will also have access to Perceptorship and Mentorship in order to develop you as a highly skilled and compassionate nurse. There is a strong leadership team on these units who will guide and support you in your professional development.
For these roles we are interested in RMNs and RNLDs and newly qualified students or students qualifying in 3 months.
If successful at shortlisting stage you will be invited to an assessment on the Friday, 18th May 2018 at the ORTUS learning and events centre.
**Please note that if you do not state the month and year that you have completed your Nursing qualification you will not be invited to the assessment.**
