LEWISHAM INTEGRATED PSYCHOLOGICAL THERAPIES TEAM CLINICAL OR COUNSELLING PSYCHOLOGIST; SECONDARY CARE FULL TIME, ONE YEAR LOCUM, BAND 7

This is an exciting opportunity to join a secondary care psychological therapies team, providing assessment and treatment to patients with mood, anxiety and/or personality difficulties. This is a one-year temporary band 7 post to cover maternity leave. The post-holder would be based in the IPTT, Ladywell Unit, Lewisham Hospital, and would also spend two days a week in the Assessment and Liaison Team (CMHT) at Southbrook Road, Lee, where four clinical and counselling psychologists provide a service. Members of the IPTT provide a range of therapies including cognitive, psychodynamic, CAT, trauma therapies, systemic and group therapies. Good supervision, support and opportunities for collaboration are provided.

The post-holder would liaise with the A&L team to discuss and screen potential referrals to IPTT. They will assess and treat patients referred to the service, providing brief, change-focused individual therapy (12-16 sessions). They will be supervised by an experienced counselling psychologist, building skills in whole-person psychological formulation and identifying appropriate treatment plans for complex cases within a briefer model.

The post will offer a valuable opportunity to gain experience working with some difficult to engage patients, drawing on a range of evidence based models and therapeutic approaches. The post holder will be part of a supportive psychology team within IPTT. They will attend weekly team meetings, case presentations and monthly psychology meetings.

The post-holder will have a doctoral degree or equivalent in clinical or counselling psychology, experience of working in a secondary care adult mental health setting. You will be eligible for chartered status with the BPS and be registered as a practitioner psychologist with the HCPC. You will be required by the Trust to maintain your registration through regular supervision and CPD, as a condition of continued employment. DPsych Clinical / Counselling trainees who are in the final stages of completing their doctorate would be considered for this job provided they anticipate completion. However, special transitional arrangements will be put in place, if proof of qualification and HCPC registration have not been received by the start date, and provided all clinical placements have been passed. Lewisham IPTT is located in Lewisham hospital, eight minutes’ walk from Ladywell station with fast trains to London Bridge. Please see attached job description for person requirements. This post was previously advertised and previous applicants should not reapply.
