This post would ideally suit someone who is keen to work with service users, carers and families, listen to their concerns, views and experiences, help them navigate the Trust’s services, liaise with a range of mental health professionals, provide them with information and advice in order to resolve their enquiries in a timely and effective way.
PALS provide advice and liaison support to patients, relatives, carers, the general public and other agencies. Frequently PALS act as the first point of contact with the Trust and as such play a key role that impacts upon all areas of the organisation.
The PALS Advisor will work as part of a small team providing on the spot help to enquirers, negotiate timely solutions and provide speedy resolutions to people’s problems. They will be responsible for assisting enquirers to explore their issues and identify appropriate ways of resolving them. This will require they work positively with enquirers who may sometimes be in severe distress. PALS will signpost enquirers to independent advice and advocacy support from local and national providers. The PALS Advisor will provide accurate information to patients, carers and families about the Trust’s services and health related issues. The PALS Advisor will carry an individual caseload and will maintain appropriate data recording systems (Datix). They will also undertake some basic administrative support to the team and Involvement Manager.
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
