The CAMHS CAG are delighted to have the opportunity to open a brand new PICU for young people aged 12-18, filling a much needed gap in service provision across South London. We will provide an 8 bedded mixed sex unit for young people with an acute mental health illness who cannot be safely cared for on a general unit.

SLaM has the largest and most specialised CAMHS services in the country and is on the forefront of personalised support for young people and children. We want to recruit nurses who have a real understanding for the needs of the CAMHS group, who can bring innovation and change to our growing services. We see this new service as a genuine specialism and are offering this exciting opportunity to be part of it.

In order to deliver the high quality of care we believe our young people deserve, we are recruiting a full nursing team with high patient/staff ratios and in addition a multidisciplinary team which consists of Doctors, Clinical Psychologist, Systematic Family Therapist, Occupational Therapist and education staff, to engage with young people and their families and provide the range of interventions they need in a full and diverse daily programme. We expect the nursing team to be at the centre of leading the unit and an integral part of the young people’s recovery.

You will have the opportunity to become a specialist in CAMHS through our excellent learning and development opportunities encompassed in our Career Development Pathway, which equips you with the skills and knowledge to become a Band 6;
• CAMHS Preceptorship
• CAMHS course at KCL (degree or masters level credits)
• Clinical interventions supported by Psychology/Family Therapy
• Leadership and managerial tasks supported by senior nurses
We believe reflection and support is vital to build resilience and help maintain a passion for this challenging yet rewarding area and is a fixed part of the programme.

You must be a qualified RMN, LD or Children’s Nurse or in the final year of your RN course. You do not need to have had a placement within CAMHS or have worked within CAMHS as many skills can be transferred from other settings. It’s helpful if you have an understanding of the challenges that face young people with mental health difficulties today, but most important is the commitment and passion to want to listen and support young people in a variety of creative ways.

We are able to offer Band 5 posts on the PICU and rotational posts working across the PICU, Bethlem Adolescent Unit (general) and Acorn Lodge (children’s).

If successful at shortlisting stage you will be invited to an assessment on the Friday, 8th December 2017 at the ORTUS learning and events centre.

**Please note that if you do not state the month and year that you have completed your Nursing qualification you will not be invited to the assessment.**
