This exciting new post within the DISCOVER team is suited to an experienced clinical psychologist, who wishes leadership opportunities, and who has a commitment to widening young people’s access to high quality, innovative mental health interventions. The psychologist will be a key member of the core DISCOVER programme team, developing and evaluating new programme elements, supervising junior staff members and helping disseminating the DISCOVER workshop programme Greater London.

DISCOVER has been developed to meet the needs of young people aged 16-19 with anxiety and depression who find it hard to access clinic-based services. The approach offers individual and group based CBT primarily in school settings, with inbuilt evaluation of programme quality, acceptability and impact. The clinical psychologist will help deliver manualised interventions, monitor and sustain DISCOVER’s impact on participating students’ wellbeing, manage complex risk concerns, and support school and other staff in this work. You will also help the team to adapt the DISCOVER model and approach to reach more troubled teenagers and sustain their mental health and wellbeing.

The successful applicant will have in-depth individual and group therapeutic skills and experience with teenagers, confident clinical assessment and risk management skills, robust experience of working in diverse socio-cultural contexts, excellent networking and liaison skills in community settings, and an interest in innovation and co-creating services with young people.

Working in the DISCOVER team provides opportunities for specialisation in the emerging field of school mental health. We can provide high quality supervision, and opportunities for teaching, service research and Continued Professional Development. The team has close links with Child & Adolescent services within SLAM, with researchers and trainers in education and mental health at Kings College, and clinical specialists within National and Specialist CAMHS.
