An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Southwark Team for Early Psychosis (STEP) as a clinical/counselling psychologist offering a specialist psychological service. STEP is a multidisciplinary community mental health team working with people aged 18-65 who are experiencing a first episode of psychosis.  It uses well researched early intervention strategies, working intensively with service users and carers for up to three years to promote engagement with the team, social inclusion and recovery. At the end of this period, many of our service users return to Primary Care and those who need further specialist help are transferred to the care of Support & Recovery teams.

This post will share the lead psychology role for the team with two Senior Psychologists. The clinical role includes psychological assessment, individual therapy, family interventions and group work. In addition there is responsibility for case consultation across the MDT, as well as teaching and supervision of recently qualified, assistant and trainee psychologists. You will be offered excellent opportunities to develop your skills in working with psychosis facilitated by expert support, specialist supervision and opportunities for further training.

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic clinical/counselling psychologist who feels passionately about offering a first class service to people presenting to mental health services for the first time with psychosis. STEP is a well-established and friendly MDT in which psychological input is valued and considered an integral part of the service on offer to our users and their families. The team offer NICE concordant care, which includes an emphasis on access to Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Family Interventions.

The South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust is in partnership with Kings College London (including Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience), Guys and St Thomas trust and Kings College Hospital trust to form Kings Health Partners, an Academic Health Sciences centre with a vision to pioneer better health and well-being, locally and globally, through integrated excellence in research, education and training and patient care.
