An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Older Adult Psychiatric Liaison Nurse to work within our busy, multi-disciplinary based at Kings College Hospital. The Older Adult Mental Health Liaison Service provides a specialist mental health service for adults over the age of 65 with mental health needs who are in Kings College Hospital both on in-patient wards and within the Emergency Department.

The team links closely with the wider mental health of older adults service, primary care, social care services and generic health community services. This ensures a co-ordinated approach to discharge planning and the design and delivery of packages of care that meet the individual needs of older people and their carers.

You must have excellent clinical skills, be able to demonstrate an ability to complete comprehensive mental state examinations, thoroughly assess risk, formulate safe and effective risk management plans and document this clearly. You should have experience of mental health emergencies, and crisis care in a variety of settings including community within Older Adult services.

You will be able work autonomously, carrying out short term interventions and making independent decisions with awareness of when to seek advice.

You will hold a sound working knowledge of common mental health disorders, the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act. A sound knowledge of the interface between physical and mental health is essential as well as experience of working with older adults, in any setting.

All applicants must also hold the relevant mentorship qualification or be willing to undertake this training. You must have very good communication and interpersonal skills. You must also be confident and motivated, flexible and be able to show initiative in an environment which can be fast paced and pressured. Clinical supervision is provided along with excellent training opportunities.

The South London Mental Health and Community Partnership (SLP) is a collaboration between Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust, South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, and South West London and St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust, delivering mental health services to a population of more than three million people. The partnership brings together clinical expertise, experience and innovation, aiming to improve quality, use resources most effectively, and deliver best practice consistently to all patients.

Our values are pivotal - if you can demonstrate that you can uphold the values and ethical practice that is at the heart of all of our organisations, then we will welcome you to join us and will support, train and develop you throughout your nursing and caring journey.
