This is an exciting opportunity for a Band 7 Clinical Psychologist to join the Greenwich Addiction Psychology Service. This service delivers evidence-based psychological treatments to service users accessing both a community NHS led complex needs addiction service and a partnership community substance misuse service run by a non-statutory provider. The new recruit will be embedded in both these friendly multidisciplinary teams and will provide assessments and treatment for service users presenting with emotional disorders in the context of substance misuse.

We are therefore looking for someone who is a good team player, has excellent professional qualities, a good understanding of theory-practice links (predominantly CBT) and has an interest in developing knowledge and skills in adapting and delivering a range of evidence-based interventions appropriate to this client group. Specialist experience in substance misuse is not essential. However, a keen interest to develop knowledge and skills in this area and the desire to help service users and carers is vital. Clinical presentations often include those who have suffered traumatic events so the post would also interest someone wanting to develop specific skills in working with PTSD and complex trauma. As well as the individual case work, this post would suit someone wanting to develop consultancy and leadership skills as the role requires development of local care pathways, training and supervising staff to deliver psychosocial interventions for substance misuse.

There will also be interesting opportunities to contribute to active service evaluation and research culture of the Trust’s Addictions directorate and clinical services. There are also strong links with the Institute of Psychiatry and the South Thames (Salomons) Clinical Psychology Training Scheme through hosting clinical placements and providing teaching.

This is a permanent role however we would be willing to offer it as secondment opportunity and explore options of working on a part time basis based on the days and hours required.
