An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated Clinical Service Manager to join the Child and Adolescent Mental Clinical Academic Group at SLAM. KMAU is a 24 bedded ‘open’ adolescent unit, which is split into 2 twelve bed wards.

The unit is a unique building with modern facilities and picturesque surroundings. The unit provides inpatient care and treatment for young people who are experiencing mental health problems to a degree that symptoms and/or risk can no longer be managed safely at home with the support of community services. The unit has an extensive / well-resourced team of experienced professionals who can provide a broad range of interventions, which are delivered by psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, teachers, therapists and social workers. Additionally, there is an “Outstanding” on site education provision.

Approximately half the young people admitted have problems relating to mood and might pose a risk to themselves – the team have developed an innovative DBT programme to help young people cope and maintain their safety.

The team aims to maintain close links with the young person’s referring team and Community Care Co-ordinator to ensure they experience a smooth transition back to the community. We are looking for a registered Mental Health Nurse who has significant management experience in CAMHS, who is ready for a new challenge in a service that is creative, innovative, forward-thinking and provides holistic care to young people and families / carers. The successful applicant will be experienced in:

  • Managing complex services across boundaries within the health and social care sector
  • Managing a highly skilled, multi - professional workforce across the inpatient wards and A LOT team to ensure the delivery of a safe and effective service
  • Managing the budget, performance and contracts working closely with corporate services within the Trust
  • Building effective working relationships with local partners including local authorities, education and the voluntary sector
  • Developing new services and delivering key projects to deadlines.

This is a diverse role mainly based in Staplehurst however the applicant will be expected to travel to London for meetings / training. Therefore, you will need to be organised, flexible and driven. You must have a genuine commitment to improving mental health services for children and young people, an ability to support staff teams under pressure, and the capacity for innovation.
