South London and Maudsley NHS foundation trust would like to recruit two specialty doctors to work in the Kent and Medway Adolescent Inpatient Unit at Staplehurst in Kent. This is a busy acute psychiatric service comprising two wards with 12 beds each. The unit is situated in an attractive part of rural Kent with good transport links to London and the South Coast.
The South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust provides Tier 4 services to all children and young people living within the county of Kent. This adolescent inpatient service is based in Staplehurst, near Maidstone consisting of two wards each of 12 beds. There is a linked Assessment, Liaison and Outreach Team. These teams work closely to provide a package of care best suited to the young person. The service treats complex cases requiring 24hr nursing and medical care; children and young people aged 12-17 with eating disorders, neuropsychiatric conditions, obsessive compulsive disorders, psychotic and affective disorders.
The post holders will be supported by experienced multidisciplinary teams including three full time Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists. These services in Kent run in close collaboration with each other as well as with the adolescent inpatient teams at the Snowsfields Adolescent Unit based at the Maudsley Hospital and the Bethlem Adolescent Unit at the Bethlem Royal Hospital.
This is an exciting opportunity to join the National and Specialist Services of the CAMHS Clinical Academic Group of South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Mental Health Trust, the largest mental health service for children and young people in the country, which has a rich academic and training programme offered through the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, and the Academic Health Sciences Centre, Kings Health Partners.
In addition to the 10 PAs for the standard week, a further two PAs are available to cover extended days and in addition, 8 hours per month optional on-call experience can be provided. Specialty grade doctors in the trust participate in CPA activities with the consultants and other staff grades and the on-call experience contributes to the Article 14 portfolio, making it particularly attractive to doctors choosing that route to consultant status.
Interviews will be held at Woodland House, Staplehurst, Kent, date to be confirmed.
